Prossimi appuntamenti in programma?

Grace Hall, glamorous Burlesque

Her shows are a mix of rétro charm, refined sensuality, artistic talent. Actress, singer, director, producer, presenter, trainer and artistic director of a training school, she is considered the Queen of italian Burlesque. The next few days we will see her performances in the best Italian theatres, before starting her international  tour. With The Sexplorer she has investigated all the must-have this profession requires

Rather than simple shows, her performances are real "glamorous experience". Deluxe shows that catalyze public's attention by plunging people in the magical atmosphere of the Cabaret and the Cinema of the '40s and '50s, among glittering costumes and corsets, guêpière and sequins, jewels and huge fans.
Versatile artist, actress, singer, director, producer and presenter (she has been godmother and host at the Main stage of the Summer Jamboree Festival for two editions, in 2013 and 2014), since the year of her debut (2009) she performs internationally, taking part to the most prestigious events, festivals and theaters in Europe, Canada and the United States.

Her strengths? Grace and culture, charm and glamour, but also a solid training in acting, dancing, singing and music that make her one of the few stars of Burlesque in the world able to offer artistic performances of the highest level and quality. In addition to a long experience as a professional actress (she is also known on theater, cinema and tv with the name of Emma Nitti) Grace Hall boasts prestigious national and international collaborations with celeb such as Abel Ferrara, Gabriele Muccino, Gigi Proietti, Juliette Binoche, Paolo Virzì, Francesco Maria Dominedò.

The reason for this twofold artistic vocation? «As an actress, everything depends on too many dynamics that you cannot control. In the Burlesque world it's up to you inventing your world,  your show and managing your career in the round».
To emphasize the art of Burlesque, Grace is currently working on a documentary with the aim to offer its most brilliant and varied views, in spite of clichés and stereotypes. With writing Grace Hall's Diaries (a publishing project linked to Casanova's Diaries) she gives space, instead, to the world of art connected to eroticism, to raise awareness about the concept of Seduction as Art and Art as a form of Seduction . But it is by focusing on her role of trainer and artistic director at the School of Education The Temple of Burlesque that she makes the point about the opportunities, challenges and milestones of this artistic genre.

What kind of skills should a Burlesque performer have on the stage?
«Mastery of the body on the stage, energy and a unique style».

What is the meaning of "dialectic of Teasing"?
«That thread that we establish with our audience, teasing and involving it. And this dialectic can be declined in many ways: seducing, winking, creating expectations that you can choose whether to satisfy or disappoint. It is a kind of seduction that Jean Braudrillard has described this way: "Seduction is not based on the attraction or desire: this is vulgar mechanical and physical act, nothing interesting. Sure, the charm of seduction goes through the attraction of sex. But properly, it goes through it, transcends it. For seduction in fact, the desire is not an end, but a hypothetical stakes. More precisely, what is at stake is the desire to provoke and disappoint, whose only truth is to shine and to be disappointed».

What is it possible to learn at the school The Temple of Burlesque?
«To accept oneself, recognize personal potential and make body language more aware».

Does Burlesque help to develop greater sensuality?
«Of course, it happens by reaching more mastery in this soft game with your femininity: you become more confident and therefore more  interesting "in the eyes of others”».

Is it right to say that Burlesque also helps to improve our relationship with the opposite sex?
«Yes, absolutely! If we learn to accept and love ourselves we can also love the others in a better way».

Is there a real special course offered by the school?
«Awareness of the body with its own gradual awakening through biomechanical exercises, yoga and Strasberg method. A mix that I built through years of training spent in classical theater, including Commedia dell'Arte, Living Theatre, and venturing into the sacred dances of Gurdjieff and the Rudolf Steiner's eurythmy. I would say that this course is really very special and unique».

How long do the courses last and what is their price?
«I suggest several formulas ... You can buy packages of hours, private lessons, intensive courses, and then there is the annual course with weekly appointments».

How the interest about this genre through the years has changed and raised in Italy?
«Many quality realities were born or have strengthened and people are finally realizing the true essence of
Burlesque, with all its colors and shades. There was a time, some years ago, during which this genre was very fashionable and many people improvised Burlesque dancing, without any adequate preparation! What we saw on stage was often ridiculous and grotesque! Now, after a natural selection, in Italy there is a beautiful scene made by real professional performers. The Burlesque is also required for private events or exclusive dinner parties. I perform especially on occasions of this kind, neglecting public occasions if they are not very special».

What are the differences between the italian and international scene?
«Abroad, I found more complicity and desire to collaborate and support each other. Each performer or producer goes to support the others' events. Here in Italy, instead, there are several groups: you can be with one or with the other. Otherwise, like me, you're a maverick and you can give a little "annoyance"».

What is the most difficult aspect of this work?
«Playing so many roles in one: director, choreographer, costume designer, lights and sound technician, manager. And, in my case, there is also the school!».

Upcoming events?

«On April the 12nd, I will be with my girls at the Teatro L'Aura in Rome for the second appointment with Grace's Tricks Revue, the debut show of my students that I will follow on stage. On April the 22nd, instead, I will debut with my new show Cabaret Burlesque - I am also the producer - at the Teatro Orpheo inTaranto. After that, there will be other shows in major italian theaters, while in June I will leave for an American tour».

Which is the Burlesque performers' beauty secret?
«Doing this work!».

What are the needed skills if you dream to interpret the Burlesque?
«Knowledge of the stage, confidence with your body, a lot of discipline, and will and an entrepreneurial streak .You could be the cleverest of all, but if you have no head for managing yourself, it's better to forget it. It's a world for enterprising women who know how to take hold of their lives».
